Juja MP George Koimburi Arrested Amid Political Tensions

Juja MP George Koimburi was arrested on Tuesday morning outside his residence and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters for questioning.

Koimburi’s arrest comes just days after he alleged that the government spent Ksh 13 billion campaigning for Raila Odinga in the African Union Commission (AUC) elections. The MP, a vocal government critic, had publicly questioned the expenditure, sparking intense political debate.

According to the legislator, two Subaru vehicles were stationed outside his house on Kenyatta Road before officers moved in and took him into custody. He was later transported to Kiambu Road, where he is being held.

His arrest has heightened political tensions following Kenya’s unsuccessful bid for the AUC chairmanship. Opposition figures and political analysts have linked the move to his outspoken stance against the government’s handling of the elections.

Despite the mounting concerns, the police have yet to issue an official statement regarding the reason for his arrest.

Koimburi’s detention follows a series of politically charged events, with critics accusing the government of attempting to silence dissenting voices. Meanwhile, his supporters have demanded his immediate release, calling the arrest politically motivated.

As the nation awaits further details, questions remain about the circumstances surrounding Koimburi’s apprehension and its implications on the current political climate.
