I&M Foundation Distances Themselves from Allegations of Hospitality work in Ngong’ Forest

The I&M Foundation issued a statement clarifying its role regarding discussions about a proposed development in Nairobi’s Ngong’ Road Forest. The foundation emphasized its support for public discourse and welcomed constructive engagement.

The initiative, named Imarisha Ngong’ Road Forest, is a non-commercial, community-focused project launched in May 2024. It aims to rehabilitate degraded forest areas, conserve biodiversity, and create inclusive green spaces to enhance public well-being and climate resilience.

The project aligns with environmental regulations and involves collaboration with local communities. Before starting, the I&M Foundation and Kenya Forest Service conducted a three-month consultation with stakeholders, including the Ngong Road Community Forest Association and local leaders from Langata, Dagoretti South, and Kibera sub-counties.

The project’s scope includes:

  1. Green Park Infrastructure: Constructing ablution blocks, housing for rangers, and fencing 14.2 kilometers of the sanctuary forest block.
  2. Forest Restoration: Establishing nurseries, regenerating degraded areas, and opening additional trails.
  3. Water Infrastructure: Drilling boreholes, installing water reticulation systems, and setting up water points to support nurseries and the park.

The I&M Foundation and I&M Bank distanced themselves from allegations linking them to hospitality developments, asserting no involvement. They reaffirmed their dedication to transparency, environmental responsibility, and ensuring the project delivers long-term conservation benefits for both the community and the environment.
