IEBC Rolls Out 30-Day Nationwide Enhanced Voter Registration Exercise

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has today officially launched the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise, a major nationwide drive aimed at boosting the country’s voter roll ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The registration exercise, which kicked off today, Monday, March 30, 2026, will run for 30 days until Tuesday, April 28, 2026.The Commission is targeting 2.5 million new voter registrations in Phase One, as part of a broader plan to enlist at least 6.3 million additional voters before the next general election.

The Eastleigh Voice News +2According to the Commission, the exercise is being conducted at the ward level across the country to make registration services more accessible to wananchi, particularly young people, first-time voters, students, and citizens who may wish to transfer or update their voter details.Eligible Kenyans can register at designated centres including County Assembly Wards, universities and colleges within their respective constituencies, Huduma Centres, the IEBC Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi, as well as IEBC Constituency Offices countrywide.

The Commission says the decentralised approach is intended to ease access and improve turnout, especially in remote areas and urban centres with high youth populations.

IEBC +2IEBC has called on all citizens who have attained the age of 18 and possess valid national identification documents to take advantage of the exercise and register within the stipulated timeline. However, the Commission has clarified that the ECVR exercise will not be conducted in areas with pending electoral processes.

These include Porro Ward, Endo Ward, and Emurua Dikirr Constituency, where by-elections are expected to be held, as well as Malava and Mbeere North constituencies, which currently have ongoing election petitions.

The temporary suspension in these areas is meant to allow the Commission to comply with legal and electoral requirements as it prepares for the upcoming by-elections and awaits court determinations in the affected constituencies. The launch of the voter registration exercise marks a significant step in Kenya’s electoral preparations, with IEBC seeking to strengthen voter participation and ensure that all eligible citizens are captured in the national register ahead of the 2027 polls.

The Commission has in recent weeks intensified preparations, including recruitment and training of temporary clerks and deployment of biometric registration kits to support the month-long exercise.
