The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the exit of its Chief Executive Officer and Commission Secretary, Mr. Marjan Hussein Marjan, following a mutual agreement to terminate his services.
The decision, communicated in an official statement released in Nairobi, brings to an end Mr. Marjan’s tenure at the electoral body and sets in motion the process of recruiting a new CEO and Secretary to the Commission.
According to the IEBC, the transition will be managed seamlessly to ensure continuity of its constitutional mandate.The Commission stated that an interim replacement will be announced in due course to take over as Acting CEO and Commission Secretary.
This move, the IEBC noted, is intended to maintain momentum in critical operations, including the conduct of elections and boundaries delimitation.As Mr. Marjan exits, the Commission says it is embarking on key reforms within the Secretariat aimed at enhancing institutional preparedness, strengthening internal accountability, and improving results-oriented systems.
The IEBC reassured Kenyans that the changes are designed to promote leadership continuity and effective service delivery in electoral management and related functions.The Commission took the opportunity to commend Mr. Marjan for his service, describing him as a committed public servant who provided professional leadership since his appointment in March 2022.
He was particularly acknowledged for steering the Secretariat during a period when the Commission operated without commissioners, until the current team was fully constituted on July 11, 2025.IEBC further assured stakeholders and the general public that the leadership changes will not disrupt ongoing activities.These include the conduct of by-elections and preparations for the 2027 General Elections.
On the contrary, the Commission emphasized that the restructuring is intended to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability within the Secretariat.The IEBC concluded by wishing Mr. Marjan well in his future endeavors, while reiterating its commitment to delivering credible, free, and fair elections for the people of Kenya.
