“Homosexuality Is A Sin But Not A Crime”- Declares Pope Francis

Pope Francis has found fault with laws that criminalize homosexuality, terming them as unjust.

The Pope said the Catholic church should work and put an end to the ‘unjust laws’.

Speaking to the Associated press on Tuesday, Pope Francis described homosexuality as a sin but not a Crime. Pope Francis criticized countries that criminalize homosexuality, saying that God loves all his children just as they are.

The Pope acknowledged that Catholic bishops in some parts of the world support laws that criminalize homosexuality or discriminate against LGBTQ people. He then attributed such attitudes from bishops to cultural backgrounds as he advised the said bishops on the need to undergo a process of change to recognize the dignity of everyone and welcome members of LGBTQ community to church.

“These bishops have to have a process of conversion, they  should apply tenderness, please, as God has for each one of us.” He said.

According to The Human Dignity Trust, a total of 67 countries worldwide, majorly cutting across Africa and middle East criminalize consensual same-sex sexual activity, 11 of which can or do impose the death penalty.
