Governor Gladys Wanga Issues Stern Warning to president Over Alleged Interference in ODM

Homa Bay Governor and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Chairperson Gladys Wanga has issued a strong warning to former President Uhuru Kenyatta over claims that he is interfering with the internal management and leadership affairs of the ODM Party.Addressing supporters during a public forum, Governor Wanga asserted that ODM is a well-structured political party with clear constitutional organs, elected officials and established procedures that guide its decision-making.

She emphasized that the party does not require external direction and must be allowed to manage its own affairs independently.Wanga noted that while former President Kenyatta remains a respected national figure who played a key role in Kenya’s political history, his reported involvement in ODM matters was inappropriate and unacceptable.

She stressed that ODM’s autonomy must be protected to ensure unity, discipline and internal democracy within the party. The governor warned that the party leadership would not hesitate to take firm political action against any individual or group attempting to interfere with ODM’s operations, regardless of their status or past positions in government.

She stated that ODM would “deal decisively” with such interference in accordance with party rules and political principles.Wanga further reiterated that ODM’s focus remains on strengthening its grassroots structures, preparing for future political contests and championing the interests of its supporters across the country.

She called on party members to remain loyal, vigilant and united, adding that ODM’s strength lies in its independence and collective resolve. Her remarks come at a time of heightened political activity and shifting alliances, with parties positioning themselves ahead of the next general election.

The comments are expected to spark debate within political circles, given the long-standing political relationship between ODM leader Raila Odinga and former President Kenyatta.Governor Wanga concluded by reaffirming that ODM would not allow any actions that could destabilize the party or undermine its leadership, insisting that respect for party boundaries is essential in Kenya’s multiparty democracy.
