Gathoni Wamuchomba: DP Gachagua’s Impeachment Plot Is A Distraction From Issues Raised By Kenyans

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has stated that the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is a decoy to distract Kenyans from the rampant corruption and inefficiency of the Kenya Kwanza government.

The vocal legislator, on her official X account, stated that the impeachment motion aims to shift attention from the rot in the Kenya Kwanza government, and other vital national issues exposed by Gen Z protesters who took to the streets a few weeks ago.

According to Wamuchomba, there is a plan to punish those who rejected the finance bill. She says such plans, which include the ouster of the Deputy President are welcome, stating that they may not have the numbers in parliament but have enough support from the ground. . She further questions the government’s push to impose punitive taxes on Kenyan voters who elected them.

“Someone thinks bringing a tribal card against the Deputy President and leaders of Mt. Kenya will diffuse the rot in the Kenya Kwanza Government highlighted by the protesters. Presenting an impeachment agenda against HE Rigathi Gachagua is a decoy to shift attention from allegations of massive corruption and open inefficiency flagged by Kenyans.

Accusing some of us for rejecting the finance bill and plotting to discipline us is very welcome. Will you punish the thousands of Kenyans who openly rejected the 2024 finance bill? An impeachment plot against DP Gachagua is welcome; while we may lack sufficient numbers in Parliament to push back, we have the people of Kenya with us. Accusing us of opposing government taxation on issues like avocado via KRA deductions is a fallacy. Any sober MP will defend voters against such punitive taxes. Even in the future, such bills will face resistance,” said Wamuchomba.

The Deputy President is under fire from some Kenya Kwanza legislators who accuse him of tribalism and blackmailing the President. They also accuse him of sabotaging government programs, as seen by his contradicting statements that negate those of the President.
