Gachagua’s Lawyers Call for Recusal of Judges From Impeachment Case

The legal team of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are now calling for recusal of judges hearing the impeachment proceedings against their client.

Arguing before the Milimani Law Court on Thursday 24, advocate Kibe Mungai cited that there’s an existing close personal relationship between Justice Anthony Mrima and the Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi that would had been disclosed in prior for the parties to brainstorm about.

“There is a very close relationship between Justice Mrima and the Senate Speaker Amason Kingi. That ought to have been disclosed and it wasn’t,” Kibe said before the court.

He further pointed out on a social media post made in 2021 by Kingi, who in the post appreciated his attendance on Justice Mrima’s wedding, even describing the relationship they have.

In his argument, Kibe made it crystal clear that the petitioners believe the existing connection between Kingi and Justice Murima compromises the impartiality of the proceedings hence calling for the judge’s recusal from the case to ensure fairness.

He adde, ‘the petitioners are therefore of the view that it would not be proper for him to proceed in this matter”
