Gachagua Reveals Details of Ruto’s Deal with Western Leaders

NAIROBI – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has unveiled specifics of a development agreement between President William Ruto and prominent Western region leaders, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Tuesday, Gachagua disclosed that President Ruto had signed an agreement promising extensive developmental benefits for the Western region. Notably, the deal was witnessed by current Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and co-signed by Simon Gikuru.

According to Gachagua, the agreement stipulated that the Western region would benefit from the completion of unfinished roads and projects, the construction of new roads spanning an additional 1,000 kilometers, and a revival of the region’s sugar industry. The pact also allegedly granted the region 30 percent representation in government, including six cabinet seats and a share in the National Assembly—a promise that Gachagua claims has not been fully realized, noting that the region currently holds only two cabinet positions.

Gachagua further revealed that within his first 100 days, President Ruto had committed to establishing a new milling plant at the Nzoia Sugar Company—a pledge that remains unfulfilled. He urged Western leaders to hold the president accountable for these commitments, arguing that a unified and courageous leadership could transform the region.

“If the Western region had a courageous leader who loves his people and is ready to fight for them, this agreement would be fulfilled,” Gachagua said. “The Western leaders still have two years to demand what they signed for. If Musalia and Wetang’ula insist on the agreement being honored, the face of Western Kenya will change.”

Gachagua also called on the people of Western Kenya to unite behind a single leader rather than splitting their votes, emphasizing that regional unity is key to securing the promised development.
