Four Workers Electrocuted at St. Andrews School, Turi

Four workers at St. Andrews School in Turi, Molo, Nakuru County, are currently recuperating from severe burn injuries after being electrocuted on Tuesday. The incident occurred as the men, aged between 50 and 60 years, were relocating a tent within the school compound, inadvertently bringing it into contact with a three-phase power line.

Reports indicate that the men suffered serious injuries upon contact with the power line, sustaining burns on their chests and legs. Two of the injured individuals are 60 years old, while the others are aged 58 and 50 respectively. The severity of their injuries necessitated immediate medical attention, leading to their admission to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Molo.

Authorities swiftly responded to the scene, with police officers from Molo Police Station, led by OCS Johnson Lemuna, collaborating with Kenya Power counterparts to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Their primary objective was to ascertain the nature of the electrocution and establish any potential safety breaches that may have contributed to the accident.

A medical report from St. Joseph’s Hospital, obtained by Citizen Digital, detailed the extent of the injuries sustained by the four men. The burns inflicted on their chests and legs underscored the gravity of the electrocution, highlighting the need for heightened safety measures in such work environments.

Despite inquiries into the incident, the school’s administration has refrained from offering comments, opting to maintain silence regarding the unfortunate occurrence.

Electrocution incidents such as this serve as stark reminders of the dangers inherent in working with electricity, especially in environments where power lines are present. The incident at St. Andrews School underscores the importance of prioritizing safety protocols and ensuring that workers are adequately trained to identify and mitigate potential hazards.

As investigations into the incident continue, authorities are expected to collaborate closely with relevant stakeholders to prevent similar occurrences in the future. This includes conducting thorough inspections of work sites, implementing stricter safety regulations, and providing comprehensive training programs aimed at enhancing awareness of electrical hazards and safe work practices.

In the aftermath of this tragic event, there is a collective call for increased vigilance and adherence to safety protocols across all sectors, with the ultimate goal of safeguarding the well-being of workers and minimizing the risk of accidents in the workplace.
