Family Obliged to Exhume the Body After the ‘Dead’ Reappears

A body that a family in Nyamira erroneously buried because they believed it to be a member of their family had to be unearthed.

This happened when the man, whose death had been assumed, appeared at his house last week.

Following a court order issued on June 12, 2023, under criminal miscellaneous application E32/2023, the exhumation procedure was carried out.

The drill was held in Siamani’s Endabu village, which is part of the Nyamira South subcounty. The exercise was directed by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Nyamira OCS, and Department of Public Health representatives.

The mistakenly identified deceased was interred a month ago.

The body has been transferred to the mortuary at Nyamira County Referral Hospital while authorities conduct an autopsy and perhaps identify it for the appropriate family members.
