Evans Kidero Files Court Petition To Challenge The Election Of Gladys Wanga As Homa Bay County Governor

Former Nairobi governor, Evans Kidero has taken to court disputing the results declared by the Independent Electoral And Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for the Homa Bay County gubernatorial seat won by Gladys Wanga.

Speaking after the announcement of Wanga as the county governor in the just concluded 9th August polls, Kidero alleged that the election and campaign process was marred with malpractices and violence which included threatening of electorates, some of the voters were denied to vote for a candidate of their choice through bribery and that during the tally his figures were converted to favor opponents.

According to the electoral body, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Wanga attained 244,059 votes to beat his closest rival Kidero who came second with a 152,182 votes running on an independent ticket.

“The whole campaign and election process was marred with malpractices and violence where instances of threats issued to the electorate, voter bribery and killings. Several things did not add up in this election and tallying of the results.” His legal council stated.

Other new governor elect who await to defend their win in court include ODM Paul Otuoma elected Busia County against ANC Sakwa Bunyasi, UDA Anne Waiguru Kirinyanga County against Independent candidate Wangui Ngirici, Narok County UDA Patrick Ole Ntutu against ODM Moitalel Ole Kenta, Kwale County UDA Fatuma Achani against ODM Hamadi Boga, Govvernor elect UPA Amos Nyaribo against a voter in Nyamira County.

Among the senators who have filed cases to the court are UDA Samuel Tunai challenging ODM Ledama Ole Kina, UDA Amin Zeddy vs TSP Senator elect Mwangi Kiunjuri.

The above cases will be heard and decision met by the court will be declared in less than six months as per the law.
