Duale to Kenyatta: Surrender Guns or Face Consequences

Kenya’s Defence Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale, has issued a stern warning to former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family, stating that the Kenya Kwanza administration will not hesitate to take legal action if they fail to relinquish their firearms. Duale, speaking in Nairobi on Sunday, July 23, called upon the former first family to coordinate with the Head of the Firearms Licensing Board, Rashid Yakub, to surrender their guns. He affirmed that no pleas or excuses would exempt them from the rule of law.

Duale further advised Uhuru to follow the footsteps of his predecessors and maintain peace post-presidency. He warned that supporting anti-government demonstrations and retaining firearms would constitute a breach of the law. His comments came shortly after Uhuru dared the government to come after him, following a raid by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at his son’s residence in Karen.

Uhuru had expressed his defiance towards the government, indicating that his silence should not be mistaken for fear. He questioned the government’s intentions towards his family, asking what his mother and children had to do with the current situation. He emphasized his presence, challenging the government to deal with him directly if they had issues.

Moreover, the former President rejected accusations of financing the Azimio anti-government protests. He queried the supposed criminality of his association with Raila, and stressed that the issues Kenyans are protesting about were not related to him. He claimed to have not participated or commented on any of these events.
