COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli Hits Back At Uhuru Kenyatta

COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli has hit back at former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s comments.

During a funeral service in Muthaiga on Friday, former president Uhuru Kenyatta encouraged the nation’s youth, including his daughter, to stand up to the political elite and defend their rights. His remarks coincided with Gen Z’s criticism of William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration for how he has been running the nation during his first term.Last year the Gen Z protested against the financial bill in the streets which led it to be dropped.

Speaking in Kakamega on Monday, Atwoli revealed that the Gen Z do not have property to defend and accused him of inciting the youth. “In 2017, I suggested we amend the Constitution to set conditions for retired Presidents, but I was accused of trying to extend Uhuru’s term. Now, he (Uhuru) is free and asking young people to rise and protect their property. What property do they have to protect?”He said.

Atwoli also assured the president that the western region is behind him. Ruto also urged his predecessor to stop inciting the youth and instead help them look for jobs to better their future.
