CJ Martha Koome Misses Out On Day One Of MPs Induction

Chief Justice Martha Koome was forced on Monday to skip the induction of Members of Parliament after Azimio-OKA lawmakers threatened earlier in the morning to protest a walk out of Koome’s session.

In an event which was graced by Speaker of National Assembly, Moses Wetangula, a section of MPs including Nyando Member of Parliament Jared Okelo and Funyula’s Wilberforce Ounda said that they take an offence on the language used by the CJ at Supreme Court to dismiss the Azimio petitions. “We are dissatisfied that Parliament has invited the Chief Justice to come and make a presentation. Their judgment was full of insults, and I do not think we deserved them.” He said.

Koome was expected to address the 13th House on the interlinkages and inter-dependence between Parliament and the Judiciary but instead sent Court of Appeal, Justice Daniel Musinga to represent him.

According to the programme released by the office of Clerk National Assembly, the legislators were on Monday to be taken through their roles, the state of the economy, diplomacy and reputation. On Tuesday, the will be taught on security matters, procedures and rules of the House by a facilitator from the directorates of legislative and procedural services. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the MPs will be familiarized with budget process, public finance and formulation of laws before they embark on Sartuday to perform duties at their respective sub-counties.
