Charges Dropped Against Dennis Itumbi in Alleged Forgery Case

Charges against ICT Chief Administrative Secretary Dennis Itumbi have been dropped by the State in a case where he was accused of forging a letter alleging a plot to assassinate former Deputy President William Ruto. The Chief Magistrate, Susan Shitubi, ruled the case unconstitutional and lacking sufficient evidence. It was revealed that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions failed to present the case file, leading to the withdrawal of the charges.

Itumbi was accused of creating a fabricated assassination letter to support his claims of a conspiracy by senior government officials in the previous Jubilee administration. The hearing of the case was adjourned upon the prosecution’s request, but the defense objected, questioning the lack of a case file after years of court proceedings. Despite the defense’s opposition, the prosecution insisted on being unprepared, resulting in the case being adjourned until July 28, 2023, by Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi.

Last year, Itumbi was called to present his defense after the prosecution concluded its case. Upon analyzing the evidence, the court found that the prosecution had a valid case against Itumbi.

In summary, the State has withdrawn charges against Dennis Itumbi, the ICT Chief Administrative Secretary, in a case where he was accused of forging an assassination letter targeting former Deputy President William Ruto. The court deemed the case unconstitutional and lacking evidence due to the prosecution’s failure to produce the case file. The hearing was adjourned, despite objections from the defense, and will resume in July 2023.
