Breaking News: Fire Destroys Popular Furniture Store in Ruiru, Kiambu County

A raging fire has destroyed property worth millions at the Modern Furniture Pacific shop in Ruiru, Kiambu County, early this morning.

The blaze, which started at around 7:00 am on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, quickly spread through the store, consuming several high-value furniture pieces and other property. Witnesses say initial attempts by area residents to control the fire were unsuccessful as the flames intensified.

Images and videos from the scene show the store engulfed in flames while residents watched helplessly from a safe distance. Firefighters from Kiambu County arrived at the scene and managed to contain the blaze, but not before substantial damage had been done to the building and its contents.

The shop is owned by prominent businessman Gibson Murage Gitonga, who operates several other furniture outlets across the country, including one in Nakuru. Gitonga, who started his business in Nyeri before expanding to other regions, has built a reputable enterprise that provides jobs to many.

Authorities have launched investigations to determine the cause of the fire.

Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
