A new Pope has been selected, in the exercise that took place at St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican city.
The conclave resumed to select Pope Francis’ successor, following his burial few weeks ago.
When a pope is being selected and no candidate acquires the needed votes, the ballots casted by cardinals are burnt to produce a black smoke through the chimney of Sisitine Chapel, a sign that no candidate met the obligations.
However, this evening, white smoke has risen from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel, signaling the College of Cardinals has chosen a new pope.
Of the 133 cardinals sequestered in the Vatican since May 7, one has now been elected as the 267th leader of the Roman Catholic Church. His name will be announced shortly.
Hallelujah!
