City & Estates Where the Wealthiest Live in Kenya

Kenya has five beautiful urban centres that have attained city status, namely; Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru and Eldoret which was elevated to city status in 2025. Of all the five cities, Kenya’s elite and wealthiest people mostly live in Nairobi in places with some desired features.

These areas are known for their paradise luxury, security, and beautiful serene surroundings. Here is a list of the estates in Nairobi, where a vast majority of high profile and wealthiest individuals in Kenya reside.

Karen Estate

This neighborhood is well known in Nairobi, for its large, elegant homes and evergreen spaces. It’s a peaceful estate where numerous classy individuals have their own privacy and security preserved. It is nearing the Nairobi National Park, telling how much close it is to nature.

Muthaiga Estate

Muthaiga is one of Nairobi’s ancient areas, which still maintains its prestige. This estate hosts large, beautiful houses owned by Kenya’s known and unpopular individuals including Kenya’s political figures.

It’s an exclusive neighborhood with a quiet, serene environment and the famous Muthaiga Country Club.

Runda Estate

This neighborhood is popular among expatriates and affluent locals. Several high profile offices are located in this neighborhood, including the United Nations offices and several embassies. It has upscale gated communities, well-kept gardens, impressive to the eyes.

Gigiri Estate

Known for its high security. Like Runda, Gigiri also hosts many embassies and international organization offices, including the United Nations. This justifies the tightened security available in the area.

It’s a top choice for those who want a safe and well-maintained place to live.

Kitisuru Estate

It may not be well known by several people living outside Nairobi city but a beautiful rapidly growing estate to live in, especially in this era. Kitisuru is a home for modern mansions and a calm environment. It attracts many wealthy people because of its tranquility and beautiful homes.

Lavington Estate

Who haven’t heard of Lavington? When I was young, I would think “Lavington” acquired its name from the word “Love” which I interpreted, came from how much attractive the colonisers who dwelt in the estate, found it to be.

Lavington offers a mix of old colonial-style houses and new developments. It has a suburban feel and is conveniently close to the city center.

Westlands Estate

Although it’s more commercial, Westlands also has high-end residential areas. It’s lively, with many businesses, restaurants, and entertainment options, making it a favorite for younger professionals.
