Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has alleged that there are plans to target him ahead of the burial of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in Siaya County.
The legislator expressed concern that certain individuals may attempt to disrupt his presence during key funeral events, including the public viewing of Raila’s body at Moi Stadium in Kisumu and the burial at Opoda Farm in Bondo.
According to information circulating in political circles, the alleged plan is said to involve a senior government official serving as a Principal Secretary in a powerful ministry. The individual is accused of coordinating a scheme to deploy organized groups to interfere with the MP’s participation in the funeral activities.
Sources familiar with the matter suggest that the motive behind the plot could be to undermine Babu Owino’s rising political influence and growing support among young voters, as he positions himself for a possible gubernatorial contest in the 2027 elections and future roles in national leadership.
Babu Owino has not disclosed the identity of the official said to be behind the plan, but he has maintained that he will not be intimidated or deterred from attending the funeral of the late Raila Odinga.
