Another Market in Nairobi Reduced to Ash Days After Toi’s Fire Destruction

Days after Toi Market went down to ashes following a fire break out, traders who operate their businesses in Mutindwa Market Buruburu estate Nairobi are also counting loses after a similar fire incident burnt their properties worth millions to the ground.

On the morning of June 14, a mixture of traders and onlookers stared helplessly as the fierce fire hungrily raged their possessions and assets.

While addressing the media who rushed to capture the scene, angry business people dusted efforts by the brigade team who according to them, turned up very late at the scene allowing the inferno to cause oceanic destructions.

Further, the onlookers and the victims told the media that fire brigade only arrived with inadequate resources, that is, vehicles equipped with only half a tank of water.

Confirming the fire incident while at the same time consoling the traders who have graced losses this morning, the Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje said that the fire erupted at around 2a.m and looked very aggressive to extinguish.

He however, promised to assess the matter and offer his support through encouraging rebuilding of the structures in the market.

He said in a statement, “Traders at Mutindwa Market have lost goods worth over Sh100 million following the 2 am inferno… Poleni sana watu wangu, we will assess the damage and we must rebuild.”
