Ababu Namwamba Celebrates Journalists and Youth at Annual Awards Ceremony

In a move to acknowledge the remarkable contributions of sports and creative arts journalists, the Kenyan Ministry of Sports held its annual awards ceremony on August 9th. Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Ababu Namwamba, expressed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting journalists in their professional endeavors and ensuring they receive government backing.

“Am happy to meet a team of journalist who have been telling stories to the world and the purpose for meeting is to appreciate the ladies and gentlemen who has made immense contribution to the growth of the industry with many Icons such Elynah Shiveka ,allow me to say thank as I request all of you we walk the journey together.” said Namwamba

During the event, Namwamba emphasized the significance of journalists in telling stories that resonate globally and shape perceptions of the country. He recognized the invaluable role they play in the growth of the industry, highlighting icons like Elynah Shiveka. Namwamba extended his gratitude to the journalists and emphasized a collaborative approach for the future.

“We are here to appreciate the ladies and gentlemen who have made immense contributions to the growth of the industry,” said Namwamba. “Allow me to say thank you as I request all of you that we walk this journey together.”

Furthering the celebration, Namwamba announced that the ministry had finalized plans to make the awards ceremony an annual recognition event. This decision reflects the government’s commitment to appreciating and supporting the journalists’ tireless efforts in showcasing the nation’s achievements and stories.

Coinciding with the awards ceremony, Ababu Namwamba also announced the Steering and Local Organizing Committees for the Youth Connect Africa Summit. The summit, themed “Youth Innovating Across a Borderless Africa,” is a platform for young people to exchange ideas and network with their counterparts from other African nations.

Namwamba encouraged the country’s youth to actively participate in the summit, emphasizing the value of collaboration and innovation across borders.

The summit, currently in its sixth edition, is set to conclude at the Kasarani Stadium on the upcoming Saturday. Notably, Kenya, the newest member of the summit, welcomed youths from 32 member countries to this prestigious gathering.

The Ministry’s twin focus on appreciating journalists and fostering youth engagement underscores the government’s commitment to nurturing both the sports and creative arts sectors. These initiatives demonstrate Kenya’s dedication to recognising talent, fostering innovation, and ensuring that the country remains a vibrant hub of cultural and sporting excellence.
