CS Machogu Attends Shimo La Tewa’s Drama Festival

Ezekiel Machogu, the education cabinet secretary, attended his first national theater festival on Friday since taking office.

At the time of the ongoing gala festivities, Machogu arrived at Shimo la Tewa School. The celebrations kicked off on April 20 and will last through April 29. Machogu was accompanied by Director General Elyas Abdi, CEO of KICD Charles Ongondo, and Basic Education PS Belio Kipsang.

A select few teams will be chosen to make presentations in the Mombasa State House. William Ruto, the president, will be present.

The festival included ECD, elementary, secondary, and college students. The works on display include plays, stories, spoken word, choral and solo poetry, inventive cultural dances, and mime. Since the COVID 19 break, this is the nation’s first drama festival.

The Ministry of Education has put a halt to all extracurricular activities in schools, from basic to higher education, since the start of Covid-19. After a nearly one and a half year hiatus, theatre, music, and sports activities were resumed in schools on November 2021.

Two years after their closure, theatre and music festivals returned to higher education institutions in June 2022. Seven universities participated in the first festival, which was hosted on the Kitui campus of Kenyatta University.
