A Man Is Given 210 Years In Prison By A Eldoret Court

A 55-year-old welder was found guilty of several crimes and given a cumulative prison sentence of 210 years by Eldoret court.

Together with David Gazemba, who was cleared of the allegations related to the robbery with violence, Humphrey Shilisia had been charged. The judge ruled that there was no proof connecting the two to the crimes.

Shilitsia received a sentence of 50 years in prison for each of the first four counts of robbery with violence, plus an additional 10 years, after she was found guilty on all five counts. The sentence was given concurrent execution by Senior Principal Magistrate Naomi Wairimu, which means the defendant will spend 50 years in prison. The three defendants were charged with robbing Gladys Rotich of sh6,000 on June 20, 2020 at Wales Estate in Kapseret Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County, while carrying a panga, a deadly weapon.

Shilisia was accused with rape in a separate case.mThe three were also accused of violently robbing Yulita Mitei of Sh19,300 at the same time and location.

They were also accused of robbing Moses Rotich of Sh76,8000 while threatening to use physical violence against him on the same day and at the same location. The suspects were also accused of violently robbing Gilbert Murei of Sh4,800 on the same day and at the same location.

Gladys Rotich described how the perpetrators broke into their home at night while brandishing a torch while providing her main testimony against Humphrey Shilisia, the complainant. She claimed that the first suspect transferred Sh6,000 from her phone to her husband’s phone before ordering him to go under the bed.

The victim claimed, “He then gave the command for me to go out with him while brandishing a panga on my neck.” The first defendant claimed in his statement that on July 20, 2020, he got up to go to his welding work, and that on the way home, he stopped to load some music into his he USB.

He claimed that two Langas police officers stopped him on the way and that he complied. The inmate claims that after asking him to accompany them to his home so they could look for a gun, the officers confiscated a home theater, a TV, and a gas cylinder before detaining his wife. In his defense, the second accused told the court that he was charged with the robbery with violence offense because he disobeyed the order of the arresting officer to implicate someone else.

David Gazemba said that he was falsely accused of committing a violent robbery after he refused to name another person to the capital office. The trial magistrate said that it was beyond a reasonable question that Gladys Rotich, the complainant, had been robbed as claimed while he was sentencing the first accused. The plaintiff was assaulted, according to the medical doctor’s report, the Magistrate ruled.
