Makena Njeri: Immediately I walked into The Church, I Didn’t Feel Safe

Famous Kenyan LGBTQ activist going by the name Makena Njeri has accused the church of stigmatization as issues of LGBTQ stand out to be a hot topic in the country of late.

Makena Njeri, who recently changed her name to Chris Muriithi, posted a video on Instagram where she clearly spoke of LGBTQ members being subjected to extreme stigma from the church.

In the video, Makena said stigma from Christians made her not attend church no matter how much she always loved going to church.

“I stopped going to church the moment when I came out because immediately I walked into the church, I did not feel safe anymore” she said.

Despite supreme court giving a ruling that favoured members of LGBTQ, church members countrywide has taken opposite trajectory opposing the act which they term immoral.

According to the supreme court, homosexuality is illegal in Kenya. However, the decision of the court stated that there is no law barring the gay/lesbianism community from associating.

In the meantime, there has been a heated debate in the country whether the queer community can be allowed to freely associate and carry on with their intimate relationships.

Majority of the people of Kenya however, regards the act so immoral and going against the ethics and morals of Kenya.
