“See You at the Ballot”: Kalonzo Dismisses Bids to Join Ruto’s Government

Wiper Patriotic Front Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has decisively ruled out joining President William Ruto’s administration or entering into pre-election coalition talks with the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Addressing political observers and supporters over the weekend, the former Vice President dismissed speculation suggesting he was considering an alliance with the government. Kalonzo’s statement follows heightened political speculation sparked by his recent consultative visits with key opposition figures, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri County.

“No, thank you very much. Let us meet at the ballot,” Kalonzo stated, reiterating that his political focus remains anchored in consolidating a broad-based opposition coalition rather than seeking positions within the government. “I have made it my personal mission to unite the opposition, and I will keep engaging all my colleagues. Liberating Kenya is bigger than any one person’s ambition.”

Kalonzo also addressed allegations that the opposition is fragmented, asserting that engagements across regional divides—including discussions with Gachagua and leaders aligned with the Linda Mwananchi movement—are designed to forge a single, formidable ticket for the 2027 General Election.

Ruling coalition allies have dismissed the opposition’s realignments as fragmented political posturing, questioning whether disparate factions can agree on a single candidate. However, Kalonzo maintained that opposition leaders will prioritize collective sacrifice and policy alignment over personal ambitions to offer a viable alternative to President Ruto’s leadership.
