Standard Group PLC has appointed Dr Naim Bilal Yaseen as its new Group Chief Executive Officer, effective November 1, 2026. The appointment follows a competitive recruitment process and replaces an earlier arrangement that had named Acting Editor-in-Chief John Bundotich as acting CEO from the same date.
Yaseen will succeed Chaacha Mwita, whose resignation takes effect on November 1 after serving seven months as substantive Group CEO. The latest appointment therefore changes the company’s planned leadership transition before the earlier arrangement takes effect.
According to a board notice dated October 29, Yaseen brings more than three decades of experience in media, public institutions and corporate governance. He previously served as Managing Director of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and Director of Public Affairs and Communication at the Judiciary.
The incoming CEO holds a PhD in Communication Studies, a master’s degree in Communications Policy, an MBA and a Bachelor of Laws degree. He is also an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
The board said his mandate will include strengthening the group’s digital and commercial performance while protecting editorial independence.
His appointment comes as Standard Group prepares for a leadership transition following Mwita’s departure, with Yaseen expected to take charge of the media company’s operations from November 1
