Fred Obachi Machoka Orders Security to Eject Niece Gloria Orwoba Over ‘Wantam’ Chants at 50th Anniversary Concert

Veteran Kenyan broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka ordered security to remove his niece, former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, from the stage after she chanted “Wantam” during his golden jubilee celebration.

The incident unfolded on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the Machoka@50 Grand Concert held at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi. The event marked five decades of Machoka’s career in broadcasting and featured performances by Congolese stars Koffi Olomide and Mbilia Bel, Cameroonian musician Sam Fan Thomas, Alicious Theluji, Les Wanyika, and Them Mushrooms.

In video footage circulating online, Machoka was heard addressing Orwoba and directing security personnel: “Please, Security, toa huyu msichana hapa. You can not screw up my job. Next time you are with your uncle, utajua hapa huna neno, utatii.” He made clear he would not allow the political chant to disrupt his professional milestone.

Sections of the crowd reacted by describing the moment as a family dispute.“Wantam,” a popular opposition slogan meaning “one term,” calls for President William Ruto to serve only a single term in office. It gained prominence in 2025 amid public discontent with the current administration.

Orwoba, who is Machoka’s sister’s daughter, previously served as a UDA-nominated senator representing women. She was expelled from the party in 2025 over alleged disloyalty after aligning with opposition figures, including former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

The uncle and niece have maintained a public family connection in the past, including visits to Machoka’s ranch. The dramatic ejection has sparked online discussion about the intersection of family ties and politics at a non-political career celebration.
