Diesel Price Drops as EPRA Retains Petrol and Kerosene Costs

Motorists using diesel will pay less at the pump from August 15. Petrol and kerosene prices will remain unchanged after the The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) extended fuel stabilization measures.

EPRA has announced new maximum retail petroleum prices that will take effect from August 15, 2026, to September 14, 2026.

Under the latest review, diesel prices will decrease by KSh5 per litre. However, the prices of Super Petrol and Kerosene will remain unchanged.

According to EPRA, the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices for Diesel now decreases by KShs.5.00/litre while the price of Super Petrol and Kerosene remain unchanged due to additional Government Stabilization Support Measures of KShs.938 Million.

The regulator said the fuel prices have been calculated in line with the Petroleum Act, 2019, and other applicable tax laws and regulations. The prices are inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT) and revised excise duty rates.

The latest review comes despite significant changes in the cost of imported fuel products. Data released by EPRA shows that the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increased during the review period.

“The average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increased by 6.99% from US$836.92 per cubic metre in June 2026 to US$948.92 per cubic metre in July 2026,” the press release read in part.

In contrast, the landed cost of diesel recorded a sharp decline. Diesel costs fell by 13.08 percent from US$984.37 per cubic metre to US$855.59 per cubic metre between June and July 2026.

Kerosene also became cheaper at the import stage. Its average landed cost decreased by 11.01 percent from US$1,028.17 per cubic metre to US$915.01 per cubic metre over the same period.

The reduction in diesel import costs helped support the latest pump price cut. Meanwhile, government stabilization support cushioned consumers from the impact of higher petrol import costs.

The new prices will remain in force for one month as EPRA continues to monitor global oil market trends and local fuel pricing factors.
