TSC Announces 20,000 Teaching Vacancies for Junior Schools

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has opened applications for 20,000 teaching positions in Junior Schools. The recruitment drive is aimed at supporting the implementation of Competency Based Education (CBE) across the country.

In a public notice, TSC invited qualified post-primary teachers on permanent and pensionable terms to apply for the vacancies. The Commission said applications must be submitted online through its official recruitment portals by midnight on August 31, 2026.

To qualify, applicants must be Kenyan citizens, hold at least a diploma in education, have attained a minimum grade of C+ in KCSE and C+ in two teaching subjects or their equivalent, and be registered teachers with the Commission.

The recruitment exercise will be conducted in accordance with the TSC Guidelines for Recruitment of Post Primary Teachers for the 2026/2027 Financial Year. The Commission emphasized that manual applications will not be accepted and that selection will be based strictly on merit and the number of vacancies available in each county.

Successful candidates will be required to present original academic and professional certificates during the recruitment process and will be deployed to teach various learning areas under the Junior School curriculum.

The notice further stated that successful teacher interns will be retained in their current sub counties/stations, while applicants are required to submit only one application for employment.

The Commission also announced that the application portal will open on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, and close on Monday, August 31, 2026, at midnight.

TSC reminded applicants that the recruitment exercise is free of charge and warned members of the public against fraudsters.

“The recruitment exercise is free of charge,” the notice stated, adding that any fraudulent activity should be reported to the nearest TSC office, the Commission’s headquarters, or the police.

The Commission encouraged qualified persons, including persons living with disabilities, to apply and directed candidates to its website for details on vacancies available in each county and sub-county.
