Safaricom has launched a new unified mobile platform called “My OneApp” to simplify how customers manage their telecommunications and financial services. The application integrates M-Pesa payments, data management, and customer support into a single interface to enhance user experience across Kenya.
This strategic move addresses the growing need for a consolidated digital ecosystem. Previously, users often navigated multiple USSD codes or separate applications to access specific services. Now, My OneApp provides a central hub for airtime top-ups, bill payments, and real-time balance tracking.
“Our goal is to provide a seamless digital journey for every customer,” said Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom Chief Executive Officer. During the launch event in Nairobi, Ndegwa noted that the app leverages advanced security features to protect user data while offering a more intuitive layout for daily transactions.
The rollout follows an extensive pilot phase where selected users provided feedback on the platform’s speed and accessibility. Consequently, the final version includes an offline mode for basic functions, ensuring that customers can still manage essential tasks even with limited internet connectivity.
Industry analysts suggest that this consolidation will significantly increase user engagement within the Safaricom ecosystem. By reducing the friction associated with switching between different service menus, the company expects a higher volume of digital transactions. Furthermore, the app includes a personalized dashboard that highlights frequently used services for faster access.
The platform also introduces a revamped rewards system. Users can now track and redeem Bonga Points directly within the app interface. This integration encourages customers to utilize the loyalty program more consistently alongside their regular spending habits.
Security remains a primary focus for the new application. Safaricom has implemented biometric authentication, including fingerprint and facial recognition, to secure M-Pesa transactions within the app. These measures aim to curb the rising cases of mobile fraud while maintaining a convenient user experience for legitimate account holders.
As the digital landscape evolves, Safaricom plans to introduce more third-party integrations into My OneApp. Future updates may include booking services for transport and entertainment, effectively turning the platform into a “super-app.” This expansion reflects the company’s ambition to remain the dominant player in Kenya’s rapidly advancing mobile technology sector.
