Three Arrested Over Murder of Kilifi IEBC Official

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of Aisha Abubakar, an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official, on January 5. The arrests followed a coordinated operation involving the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Operation Support Unit (OSU), and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.

The suspects were apprehended from different hideouts in the Coastal Region, and key evidence, including phones belonging to Abubakar’s son, was recovered.

Aisha was killed during a violent robbery at her Utange home. According to police, two armed intruders broke into the house at around 3 am by cutting through the kitchen window grills. Armed with a crowbar and knife, they assaulted her son and fatally stabbed her despite her pleas for mercy.

The attackers stole several valuables, including two Samsung phones, an iPad, a 65-inch TV, a sound system, and ATM cards with PINs they had forced her to disclose. Neighbors rushed Abubakar to Premier Hospital in Nyali, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Family members revealed that, aside from electronics, the assailants took IEBC documents from a torn bag. Her son, Abubakar Hassan, believes the killing was deliberate.

“The aim was to finish her, and they succeeded,” he said.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover the motive behind the attack.
