Eldoret Town Elevated to City Status by President William Ruto

President William Ruto has conferred city status on Eldoret, making it Kenya’s fifth city, joining Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru. In an event attended by numerous delegates, including Olympic medalists, the president declared that this grand conferment signifies a new beginning for the city and urged residents to invest in and promote peace in the region.

The conferment, approved by the Senate after thorough due diligence, was in response to a request from the residents and the county leadership.

” I, Kipchirchir William Samoei Ruto, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, officially ordained that Eldoret Municipality is now a city. According to this proclamation, Eldoret Municipality will henceforth be known as the City of Eldoret. It shall now be called City of Eldoret by everyone, under the law as shall be decreed as this proclamation.” Said Ruto

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Chelilim described the conferment as a significant milestone for the country and a historic achievement for the town. “This event is not just a milestone for Eldoret. It’s a defining chapter in Kenya’s history as we welcome our fifth city, conferred by the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya,” Chelilim said.

The new city status will open doors to investors and corporate entities, contributing to the economic development of the Rift Valley.
