MTN South Africa and Huawei have achieved a milestone in African telecommunications by completing the continent’s first 5.5G network trial at MTN’s Johannesburg headquarters.
The technology, using Huawei’s SingleRAN
ultra-wideband active antenna units and advanced carrier aggregation technologies, shows speeds of up to 8.6 Gbps per user. This next-generation network promises ten times the speed and connection capacity of existing 5G infrastructure while reducing latency and power consumption.
The successful trial, championed by MTN South Africa’s CTO Rami Farah and Huawei’s regional leadership shows a transformative step in South Africa’s digital evolution.
By incorporating enhanced Internet of Things integration, autonomous driving network technology and green ICT capabilities, this partnership aims to
transform South Africans’ interaction with technology while boosting the country’s digital economy.
This partnership seeks to bridge the gaps existing in the digital world, by enhancing technological advancement on telecommunication industry.
