Unknown Intruders Raid Senator Okiya Omtatah’s Busia Office

In the early hours of Saturday, unidentified individuals burglarized the Busia office of Senator Okiya Omtatah, located in the Korinda area. The attackers plundered the office, taking computers, a television, and other electronics. The total value of the stolen goods is still uncertain. According to Becker Ogot, Omtatah’s Office Manager, the intruders also made off with confidential documents and a flash drive.

Ogot emphasized the potential importance of these small items, like the flash drive, which may carry confidential data. He urged security agencies to expedite their investigations and hold the perpetrators accountable. The burglary occurred amidst an ongoing assessment of pending bills, causing further delays to the public report compilation.

Jacob Ikomero, the landlord, echoed Ogot’s plea, expressing hope for a swift and thorough investigation. The criminals reportedly entered the office through a window around 2 a.m., later proceeding to steal from a nearby house.

Senator Omtatah refrained from conjecturing the raid’s motive, expressing uncertainty to the media. Meanwhile, Busia County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto confirmed the incident and reported the launch of a police investigation.

Omtatah, a vocal government critic, recently made headlines after challenging the contentious Finance Act, 2023 in court—a case the judiciary supported. The motive behind the burglary remains unclear, raising questions about whether it was a random crime or connected to his political activities.
