Crowd Attacks Police: Officer Rescued, Hospitalized

In Homa Bay County, a police officer attached to the Rachuonyo South Police Division narrowly escaped death in a violent clash with protestors in Oyugis town. The incident occurred when the protestors attempted to break into a bank, prompting a group of uniformed officers on patrol to intervene.

The situation quickly escalated as the protesters armed themselves with stones and crude weapons, launching a relentless barrage of stones at the officers. The injured officer found himself cornered and overwhelmed by the onslaught, eventually collapsing due to severe injuries. Fortunately, his fellow officers managed to extricate him from the volatile scene and rushed him to a hospital within the county for medical attention.

According to Rachuonyo South Sub County Police Commander Lilies Wachira, the officer’s injuries were grave, but there was hope for his recovery, as he was receiving appropriate medical care. To safeguard the officer’s well-being, the authorities refrained from disclosing his identity and the hospital where he was admitted.

Commander Wachira sternly warned residents against exploiting protests as opportunities to engage in criminal activities. She urged them to refrain from any form of wrongdoing, asserting that those involved in criminal acts would face the full force of the law.
