Azimio La Umoja party leader Raila Odinga has confirmed that the anti government protests scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are still on as planned.
Odinga stated that despite their intelligence on the alleged reports of militia created by government, intended to attack their peaceful protests, the maandamano will happen as they cannot be cowed by empty threats issued by President William Ruto and his surrogates.
“We are here, first and foremost, to confirm that the peaceful protests planned for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week are on as earlier declared by our leadership. These protests will go on in line with Article 37 of our Constitution, which provides for freedom of peaceful assembly and states that “every person has the right, peaceably and unarmed, to assemble, to demonstrate, to picket, and to present petitions to public authorities.” Said Azimio, in a letter issued by Leader of Majority Opiyo Wandayi
Last week, Kenya Kwanza government had warned Azimio against any attempt to bring chaos and destruction of property in Kenya, stating that no one was above the law and the former prime minister should be arrested and made to pay for damages.
However, according to Azimio, Kenya Kwanza should make walk their talk and arrest the leaders during the protests. The opposition also called on the government to focused on lowering the cost of living and listen to their citizens rather than themselves.
