Senate Saves Siaya Deputy Governor from Impeachment

Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol has finally breathed a sigh of relief after the Senate dismissed a report by a special Ad hoc committee recommending his impeachment.

The Ad hoc committee had tabled a report before the senate to dethrone the deputy county chief over gross misconduct, abuse of office, mismanagement of public funds and interference, involvement in procurement processes, and violation of constitution, allegations that were substantiated by the members of Siaya County Assembly .

In ruling delivered by Senate speaker Amason Kingi, the senate through voting process failed to remove the Deputy Governor from office, as 27 senators dismissed the charges against him while only 16 approved. 36 lawmakers were present in the chambers while 3 voted virtually.

“The Senate has failed to remove from office by impeachment William Oduol, the Deputy Governor of Siaya County and that the Deputy Governor accordingly continues to hold office.” Said Kingi.

Oduol has been in the spotlight because suspicions of him buying an executive chair for 1.1 million were made public. This action put him in the middle of an abuse of public funds and resources.
