LSK Raises Concerns About Bogus Lawyers Working For Embu County

The county has come under fire from the Embu chapter of the Law Society of Kenya for reportedly cooperating with people posing as attorneys.

Rose Migwi, chair of Embu’s LSK, stated on Friday that these dubious individuals were hired to verify and certify county staff documents during a headcount to determine the number of county employees. Two women who claimed to be lawyers, according to Ms. Migwi, were detained after their office on Thursday requested assistance from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

She stated that they may be workers of Embu County and that they were observed stamping and checking documents at the Kenya School of Government (KSG) during the counting. As part of measures to contain the crime, the chair declared that after the inquiry is complete, they will pursue the prosecution of the two ladies.

The Embu Bar Association stormed the KSF headcount and detained two offenders, according to Mr. Kirimi Gwantai, head of compliance at LSK Embu, but other suspects fled. Mr. Gwantai feared that the masqueraders would cast doubt on the accuracy of the headcount. He criticized Embu for failing to request from the bar association a list of all currently licensed attorneys working in the county.
