Sakaja May Only Speak To Ruto Not His Deputy, Says Orengo

James Orengo, the governor of Siaya, has stated that Johnson Sakaja, the governor of Nairobi, is required to address the President directly and not the Deputy President. If there is a problem in Nairobi, Orengo advised Sakaja to speak with President William Ruto rather than DP Rigathi Gachagua.

“Ruto is the only one with whom Sakaja can communicate. The constitution established two different levels of government and mandates that we conduct business with mutual respect and corporation “said he. He addressed on Tuesday at the father of Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah’s memorial service in Indangalasia, Kakamega.

Orengo advised the DP not to make Sakaja comply with his demands. The Siaya Governor continued by stating that Gachagua is mistaken and his Nairobi counterpart is correct. This follows a dispute over how to administer the county transportation system between the DP and Sakaja.

Gachagua cautioned Sakaja on December 20, 2022, not to carry out his scheme to move matatus from the CBD to GreenPark Terminus. He characterized the action as misguided and said it was intended to harass the Mount Kenya business community, adding that it would cause disruption in the economy.

Long-distance matatus would be moved from the CBD to the recently constructed Green Park bus terminus on Haile Selassie Avenue under plans started by Sakaja. However, long-distance matatu drivers protested the move and went to, which led the court to temporarily halt the relocation.
