Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has intervened to assist traders at Toi market after a devastating fire destroyed several stalls on Sunday. In a tweet on Monday, Sakaja expressed his administration’s commitment to rebuilding the affected stalls and supporting the traders.
Acknowledging the tremendous loss suffered by the traders, Sakaja assured them that his team had assessed the damage and would provide the necessary assistance for reconstruction. Additionally, the governor pledged to offer food and material support to the affected families, recognizing the hardship they now faced.
Sakaja also announced plans to construct a road within the market area, facilitating improved access for fire rescue and emergency services. This initiative would enable faster and more efficient response times during critical situations, enhancing overall safety measures.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Sunday at approximately 2 am, caused extensive damage, estimated to be worth millions of shillings. While initial reports from residents suggest a potential electrical fault as the cause, the precise origin of the fire remains uncertain.
Upon receiving notification of the incident, fire engines from the county government promptly arrived at the scene to combat the blaze. Their efforts were aimed at extinguishing the fire and preventing further destruction.
Governor Sakaja’s proactive response and commitment to providing aid to the affected traders and their families reflect his administration’s dedication to the welfare of the community. By addressing the immediate needs and planning for improved infrastructure, he aims to mitigate the impact of such unfortunate incidents and enhance the resilience of the market.
