Three people, including a child, lost their lives while 44 others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident early this morning at Nukiat, along the Londiani-Muhoroni road.
The Dreamline bus, traveling from Mombasa to Busia, veered off the road while negotiating a sharp bend, landing on its left side. Witnesses report that the driver lost control, resulting in the fatal crash.
Area OCPD Agnes Kunga confirmed the incident, noting that two adults and one child died instantly. Emergency responders transported the injured to Londiani Sub-County Hospital, while the deceased were taken to Londiani Mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
The bus driver was apprehended at the scene and, after receiving medical attention, was detained at Londiani Police Station for further questioning.
This latest accident underscores the deadly reputation of the Londiani stretch, known for frequent crashes. Just last year, on June 30, a multi-car collision involving a trailer and several parked matatus at a busy pick-up point claimed 55 lives. Similarly, in September 2024, 13 people perished when a lorry hit a porthole, lost control, and crashed into a 14-seater matatu heading to Kisumu.
The ongoing danger at the Londiani black spot has reignited calls for enhanced road safety measures to prevent further tragedies.
