These ways included;

  1. Asking phone users not to disclose MPESA PINs to anyone, emphasizing that PINs for securing money accounts should be personal, and that only a fraudster would ask for a PIN.
  2. Warning bank account holders not to be lured by unnecessary bank messages, saying that certain bank messages are likely initiated by online scammers.
  3. Members of the public seeking jobs have also been told to beware of scam job vacancies and unmerited work promotions, adding that scammers also employ this trick to collect money from uninformed individuals.
  4. Tenants ought to confirm with their caretakers of sudden change of accounts and phone numbers allocated for collection of rents. Here, Safaricom notes that certain scammers send random messages to random individuals notifying them of changes in account numbers and phone numbers to send rent money.
  5. Online users have been urged to double check unknown links they meet online, to take precautions and not to fall in traps set by scammers who hack accounts using links. Additionally, the online users have been advised to keep updating their passwords.
  6. Also, people have been urged to verify details before sending money to stranded relatives.
