President William Ruto is scheduled to depart this evening for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will participate in the 37th African Union (AU) summit of Heads of State and Government. The announcement was made in a press statement by State House Spokesman Mohamed Hussein.
Ruto’s agenda at the summit includes addressing education disparities affecting approximately 98 million African children who lack access to schooling. Additionally, he will present a report on the continent’s efforts to combat the climate crisis, highlighting initiatives such as the Nairobi Declaration, established during the inaugural Africa Climate Summit held in Nairobi the previous September. This report aligns with Ruto’s role as the chair of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC).
The summit’s theme focuses on bolstering resilient education systems to nurture Africa’s human capital in the 21st century. Ruto is expected to engage in discussions centered on this theme alongside other regional concerns, particularly regarding the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, during a mini-East African Community Summit.
Throughout his visit, Ruto will hold meetings with fellow heads of state, representatives from international organizations, and business leaders. This diplomatic engagement follows Ruto’s recent official visit to Japan and his attendance at the World Governments Summit (WGS) in Dubai.
President Ruto’s participation underscores Kenya’s commitment to addressing pressing continental issues and advancing regional cooperation.
