President William Ruto has issued a new Executive Order reassigning some government functions.
This order supersedes the one issued in October of last year. Ruto published key roles of officials ranging from the Deputy President to the Chief Executive Officers of State Corporations in his Executive Order 1 of 2023.
DP Rigathi Gachagua was given a new role in the Coffee Reforms sector as a result of the changes. He will also deputize the President in carrying out the President’s functions under Article 147 of the Constitution. Gachagua is tasked for overseeing the implementation of Cabinet decisions throughout all Ministries and State Departments and chairing Cabinet Committees.
The president and his deputy will also receive assistance from Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi in organizing and managing State Departments and Government Ministries.
Along with overseeing the technical monitoring and evaluation of government policies, programs, and projects, Mudavadi will chair the committees of the principal secretaries. The National Transport and Safety Authority will also return to the Ministry of Transport under the new organization.
