The World Health Organization (WHO) received 30 acres of property from President William Ruto on Monday, April 24, for the development of a regional health emergency hub and training facility.
The Head of State stated during the unveiling of a CyberKnife at the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital that the emergency center is anticipated to be unique on the continent.
“I am thrilled that the World Health Organization will now have access to 30 acres of vacant property for the construction of a regional health emergency hub and training facility for Africa.
“I note that this provision leaves adequate land available for the future expansion of the university and this hospital,” said Ruto.
He continued by saying that the government would gain a lot from its collaboration with the WHO, including the opening up of job prospects. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed today offers the basis for Kenya and WHO’s collaboration in health, training, and rescue activities during disasters and other emergencies.
In addition to capacity building and technological transfer, employment opportunities are also anticipated to result from this relationship, according to Ruto.
The blocked children’s hospital and pediatric cancer wing at Kenyatta University will be finished, the president further pledged.
Health CS Susan Nakhumicha and WHO delegate Abdourahmane Diallo signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) earlier in the day.
A portion of the statement from the ministry read, “The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Susan Nakhumicha Wafula, and the World Health Organization Country Representative, Abdourahmane Diallo, to establish a WHO Regional Emergency Hub for Eastern and Southern Africa in Nairobi.
