Rigathi Gachagua: There is Plot to Dismantle the Supreme Court Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that there is a plot by the government to dismantle the Supreme Court and hound Justice Martha Koome ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Gachagua spoke while addressing church congregations in Embu town and stated that the recent withdrawal of the security detail belonging to Lady Koome was a planned maneuver by the state to intimidate her into succumbing to the government’s instructions, which only favor President Ruto and his administration.

According to Gachagua, petitions brought to the Judicial Service Commission calling for the removal of the Chief Justice were part of a well-coordinated plot to remove the current Supreme Court and replace it with a bench that only favors Ruto.

“I want to say that there is a plot by the government to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome from office. I want to say that these are state machinations aimed at undermining the Supreme Court, dismantling it, and replacing it with a team that only listens to the president. We want to tell Chief Justice Martha Koome to stay put and that she is doing a great job. The withdrawal of her security is meant to send a signal to her, threatening that she will be hounded out of office. There is a bigger plot to cripple the Supreme Court.”

This comes a few days after the security detail belonging to the justice was withdrawn, an incident that raised eyebrows. However, the Interior Cabinet Secretary stated that the officers were promoted and redeployed to different offices.
