The leader of the opposition, Raila Odinga, has not yet informed his supporters of the location of the beginning or end of his anti-government demonstrations in Nairobi.
Anti-riot police have been posted on main roads in Nairobi and along the motorways despite the absence of sound in the morning. On Thursday, police water cannons and anti-riot police were observed at Jacaranda Grounds. Embakasi East’s Jacaranda grounds is run by Raila supporter MP Paul Ongili, also known as Babu Owino.
The first demonstration took place on March 20, 2023. Once police closed off all access roads to the city center, Raila was supposed to lead protesters in Nairobi’s Central Business District but instead moved them to Mathare.
Raila started his voyage in Kawanagware on Monday during the demos and finished it in Kibra. Also, the location of the Opposition Chief’s third anti-government protest on Thursday is still unknown. Raila might travel to Githurai through Thika Road, then take the Outering Road through Eatslands before arriving at Jacaranda Grounds.
Running clashes between police and demonstrators were visible in the Mathare-Number 10 region by 12 o’clock. The demonstrators were attacked with tear gas, and they responded by throwing stones at the police.
The situation is the same in Kibra, Kisumu’s central business district, and Homa Bay.
