Raila to Move To Court to Stop Shakahola Investigations

Raila Odinga has raised concern over President Ruto’s appointment of a Commission of Inquiry to investigate suspected killings in Shakahola Forest, promises to challenge the matter in court.

Speaking during his visit to Kilifi county, at a funeral service, Raila threatened to stop Shakahola Investigations through court claiming that the move to appoint the commission is unconstitutional.

According to Raila, it is the old constitution which permits the Head of State to appoint the commission of inquiry in cases like the Shakahola Massacre.

However, he stated that the new 2010 constitution no longer offer such powers to the Head of State, adding that the commission should be formed by the members of the National Assembly.

Raila also claimed that the President can not appoint the commission because the executive is also suspects in the Shakahola massacre.

Mimi nitaenda mahakama kusema hilo jopo iliundwa na Rais ni kinyume Cha Sheria. Rais Hana uwezo wa kuunda jopo ya uchuguzi. Haweziunda hilo jopo sababu executive ni mshukiwa Kwa kesi ya Shakahola.” Raila said.

Raila revealed that he already informed the Members of Parliament to form a commission of inquiry but the MPs have failed and thus he is left with the option of going to court.

Further he claimed that top government officials had been spotted with Mackenzie in prayer meetings and that Shakahola is a State House annex
