Raila Odinga Denies Wasting Billions In AUC Campaign

ODM leader Raila Odinga has refuted claims that they spent much money on campaigning for the AUC seat.

The former prime minister lost his much-anticipated bid for the African Union Congress seat earlier this month. Majority of the kenyans celebrated after he lost the elections as they went on to declare that he betrayed the Gen Z movement.Odinga insisted that it was not a do-or-die situation for him and that he will soon announce a way forward in his political career. On Monday morning he met with William Ruto in Mombasa to discuss the way forward for them after they lost the elections.

Speaking on Monday, Raila insisted that they did not waste resources during the campaign period as it is being reported.”Some people say it was KSh 13 billion spent on the Raila campaign. I don’t know which world they live in. A billion shillings to do what? The money that was spent was necessary for transport to travel around and we were not living luxuriously,” Raila said.

He went on to add that they were being hosted by the host nation “We were eating what we were being given, and many countries were generous and provided accommodation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was available 24/7, and the other government departments made appointments for us. I want to thank my brother Ruto for this support,” he added.
